The procedure for acquiring citizenship of the Republic of Armenia and the list of necessary documents is established by the Governmental Decision N 1390-N (23 November, 2007).
For obtaining the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia the person needs to submit the following list of documents:
1. application-questionnaire․
2. a valid passport issued by a foreign state and a copy of it.
3. 6 color photos - 35 x 45 mm.
4. the original and the copy of birth certificate.
5. the original and the copy of marriage certificate.
6. spouse’s passport and a copy of it.
7. child’s birth certificate and copy, and child’s passport of a citizen of the Republic of Armenia and a copy of it or another document certifing the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia
8. one of the documents confirming Armenian ethnicity;
a. a baptism certificate issued by churches mentioned in the annex N 4 of this decision, established in the manner prescribed by the decision and with a note that the baptized person or his / her parent is an ethnic Armenian
b. a document confirming Armenian ethnicity issued by the competent authorities of a foreign state and certified by an apostille or attested by the consulate
c. Another document substantiating Armenian ethnicity established in the manner prescribed by this decision
d. Birth certificate of a parent (grandfather, grandmother, sister or brother) or other identity document with a note of Armenian ethnicity. The birth certificate or other identity document of a sister or brother establishing nationality can be a document confirming nationality if brother's or sister's Armenian nationality is conditioned by the nationality of their joint parent.
9. Along with the documents mentioned in paragraph "d" of 8th sub-clause of this clause, is also submitted a document substantiating the kinship of the person issued by the competent state bodies.The documents envisaged by sub-clauses 2, 4 and 10 of this clause, containing a note on Armenian ethnicity are also documents confirming Armenian ethnicity.
10. Certificate of residence of a stateless person and a copy of it,
11. refugee convention travel document
12. the document confirming the residence status or legal residence in the Republic of Armenia, and copies of that documents.
13. receipt certifying payment of the state duty.
For terminating /stopping/ the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia the person needs to submit the following list of documents
1. application-questionnaire
2. a valid passport and a copy of it.
3. birth certificate and a copy of it
4. 6 color photos - 35 x 45 mm
5. Marriage certificate and a copy of it
6. child’s birth certificate and a copy of it
7. Military booklet /conscripts/
8. receipt certifying payment of the state duty.
9. In case of having citizenship of another state, the valid passport issued by the competent body of that state and its translation into Armenian performed in the manner prescribed by law and certified.
10. Written certificate (reference) issued by the competent authority of a foreign state on the legal possibility of acquiring the citizenship of that state, if the applicant does not have the citizenship of another state andits certified translation into Armenian performed in the manner prescribed by law.
For terminating /stopping/ a child's citizenship of the Republic of Armenia are submitted the following list of documents
1. application-questionnaire
2. child’s valid passport of a citizen of the Republic of Armenia and a copy of it
3.Valid passport of the applying parent and a copy of it
4. 6 color photos - 35 x 45 mm
5. Marriage certificate or certificate of recognition of paternity or document on being a single mother and a copy of it
6. child’s birth certificate and a copy of it
7. Consent of the other parent and a copy of the identity document,if one of the parents is a citizen of the Republic of Armenia. Moreover, in case of impossibility to submit the parent's consent personally at the department or Embassy or Consulate, is submitted certified Armenian translation of the consent performed in the manner prescribed by law.
8. receipt certifying payment of the state duty.
9. In case of having citizenship of another state, child’s valid passport issued by the competent body of that state.
10. Written certificate (reference) issued by the competent authority of a foreign state on the legal possibility of acquiring the citizenship of that state, if a child does not have the citizenship of another state and its certified translation into Armenian performed in the manner prescribed by law.
11. Written consent of a child from fourteen to eighteen years old.
If the required documents /for acquiring or terminating RA citizenship/ are in foreign language, the applicant also submits their certified Armenian translations performed in the manner prescribed by law.
